Kelly Ripa can’t stop saying “balls” on ‘Live’ while discussing New Year’s Eve: “So Seacrest’s old balls will be there?”

Kelly Ripa was certainly having a ball on Live with Kelly and Mark on Tuesday.

Ripa read about the “big new ball” that will drop in Times Square on New Year’s Eve this year, telling viewers that “it’ the largest one to date, featuring nearly double the amount of reflective crystals as its predecessor.”

In addition to the new ball, Ripa noted features of Times Square’s recent “$550 million revamp,” which included a wedding chapel, candy emporium, an interactive museum, and “an observation deck where they’re going to have the premium ball experience, where you can visit and touch the New Year’s Eve ball year-round.”

“Oh, I’m going to touch that ball,” she deadpanned.

Mark Consuelos quipped, “It’s a big beautiful ball.”

This led Ripa to ponder what happens to the “old balls,” including those dropped under her former Live co-host Ryan Seacrest‘s tenure as host of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

“You know, Seacrest has some old balls,” she said.

After Live EP Michael Gelman said he thinks that “they’re putting it in a museum,” Ripa asked, “So Seacrest’s old balls will be there, too?”

Gelman replied, “Well, he just visits once a year.”

Ripa added, “What about Dick Clark’s old balls? Where will those be?”

Meanwhile Consuelos and the Live studio audience were sent into hysterics. Gelman said the old New Year’s Eve ball “was around for 20 years,” though “the new one is bigger and shinier.”

Ripa echoed, “This one’s the biggest and shiniest ball yet. I look forward to it.”

Tickets for the observation deck attraction start at $45, which as Ripa read, will allow “ball enthusiasts” to “score access and go touch the balls.”

Consuelos joked, “And it says you get a pair of adult diapers so you can stand in line and wait the whole night.”

Live with Kelly and Mark airs on weekdays. Check out their website for your local listings.
