Glazed-Donut Nails Are Still Very Much In—With This Simple Twist

Glazed-donut nails have been going strong for four years running—and won’t be going anywhere this summer.
The look was largely popularized by Hailey Bieber, who’d already coined the term glazed-donut skin in spring 2022. At that same year’s Met Gala, she wore a set of milky sheer nails with a subtle iridescent sheen that mimics the icing on a donut, and the rest is history. Celebrity nail artist and OPI global ambassador Zola Ganzorigt was behind Bieber’s glazed-donut sets, using OPI GelColor in Funny Bunny and the OPI Chrome Effects in Tin Man Can to achieve the frosted shine.
“It was a really last-minute decision to do glazed-donut nails at the Met Gala, surprisingly,” Ganzorigt told Glamour back in 2022. “Hailey’s dress was a really pretty YSL satin white dress. We were originally talking about doing just translucent white color, but I asked Hailey to try the chrome effect because it’d match her dress. That’s how we discovered the glazed-donut nail.”
Four years later Ganzorigt is unsurprised the glazed-donut finish remains a top nail trend in 2026 due to its adaptable nature. “Glazed-donut nails are elegant and chic, and elevate any color,” she tells Glamour. “The versatility of chrome in creating glazed-donut nails makes it easy to achieve different versions of the look and wear it in so many ways.”
While almond nails reigned supreme in 2022, current trends lean toward more-natural shapes and more-neutral shades of polish. “A shorter rounded or soft squoval shape feels more natural and everyday, while a longer almond or modern coffin shape feels more elevated,” Ganzorigt says. As for color, Ganzorigt has been pairing nude shades like Put It in Airplane Mode with the chrome powder Tin Man Can Glaze for a “subtle and effortless” look, while also experimenting with darker shades and the blue-gold chrome powder Mermaid for Me for a moodier effect in summer 2026.
