APD investigating 'murder-suicide' at northwest Austin apartment complex

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police are investigating the deaths of two people found at a northwest Austin apartment complex as a “murder-suicide.” APD said it responded to the scene Monday morning.

Officers and Austin-Travis County EMS responded to a check welfare call around 8:45 a.m. at the Onyx 183 apartments, located in the 6800 block of McNeil Drive, the agency said in a news release Wednesday.

“The caller advised she had not heard from her female friend in almost a week,” police said.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they found a dead man and a dead woman inside. Police identified the woman as 25-year-old Jade Herb and the man as 23-year-old Christopher Rasco.

According to the preliminary investigation, police said there was evidence that suggested the incident was a murder-suicide, “in which Christopher killed his girlfriend then later killed himself.”

This is now being investigated as Austin’s 15th homicide of 2025, according to police.

This appeared to be an isolated incident, and police said there was no danger to the public. If anyone has information related to the case, they can contact APD at 512-974-TIPS or can submit an anonymous tip via the Austin Crime Stoppers website.

No other details were released Wednesday.
