Alfonso Herrera Expands Career With Sony Pictures TV Deal
EXCLUSIVE: Alfonso Herrera is moving behind the camera. The star has inked a deal with Sony that will see him move into directing and exec producing, as well as continuing to appear in TV shows.
Known for his breakout role in boarding school drama Rebelde, Herrera has credits spanning English- and Spanish-language film and TV including Ozark, Sense8, Queen of the South and The House of the Spirits.
Sony Pictures Television lifted the lid on its deal with Herrera during its LA Screenings event for buyers from Latin America. Carlos Quintanilla Sakar, VP & Head of Content and Production for SPT LATAM and U.S. Hispanic, told the room that the pact will see Herrera executive produce and direct on future series.
The agreement marks Herrera’s first move into exec producing and directing, and he will help develop and shape premium series targeting global audiences. Specifically, he will collaborate closely with the SPT production team in Latin America on stories with international appeal.
The star spoke about the deal in more detail during Sony’s screening event. “Sony Pictures Television has a very powerful combination: global experience and a real openness to developing stories with local identity,” he said. “For me, it is a place where I can grow as a creative and where projects can scale organically to international audiences. I am excited to build content with global ambition, while staying connected to our roots.”
John Rossiter, EVP, Distribution, Networks & Production for Latin America, SPT added: “This agreement reflects our broader strategy of investing in top-tier creators to develop compelling, authentic local stories that resonate globally. We believe Latin America continues to play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of premium entertainment for worldwide audiences, and Alfonso’s creative vision is an important part of that.”
