Brazilian Man Found Breathing At Funeral Home

An 88-year-old man shocked funeral home workers after he was discovered breathing while being prepared for his wake, days after doctors reportedly declared him dead. The bizarre incident has now triggered a police investigation in Brazil.

According to reports from The Sun, Juraci Rosa Alves was admitted to a hospital in Presidente Bernardes, São Paulo state, on May 16 after suffering respiratory complications. Doctors later informed the family that he had died from respiratory failure.

Following the declaration, funeral arrangements immediately began, and Alves’ body was transferred to a funeral home for post-death preparations.

The shocking twist came when funeral home employees noticed movement while preparing the body.

According to funeral home nursing supervisor Jacqueline Brogiato, staff realized Alves was still breathing after seeing abdominal movement during cleaning procedures.

Brogiato reportedly provided emergency first aid before paramedics arrived at the scene. Alves was later sedated, intubated, and rushed to a hospital in Presidente Prudente for urgent treatment.

According to multiple reports, Alves remains hospitalized in intensive care and is in serious but stable condition. He is reportedly still intubated as doctors continue treatment.

The incident has sparked outrage among family members, who reportedly filed a complaint against the doctor involved in the original death declaration.

According to local reports cited by Brazilian media, the complaint alleges failure to provide proper medical assistance before Alves was declared dead. Police have opened an investigation, although authorities have not publicly identified the doctor involved.

The hospital involved has also reportedly begun an internal review into how Alves was mistakenly declared dead.
