A24 Serving Up ‘Marty Supreme’ 70MM Engagements
EXCLUSIVE: The Josh Safdie directed Marty Supreme will be get a 70MM release in New York City and Los Angeles on Dec. 18 ahead of its nationwide release on Christmas Day.
Additional 70MM engagements in select cities will also follow on Dec. 25 for the A24 theatrical release.
Two-time Academy Award nominee Darius Khondji, reunited with Safdie after Uncut Gems, and shot Marty Supreme on 35mm using Arriflex cameras and vintage anamorphic lenses. The pic’s presentation in 70mm transforms that 35mm imagery into a more immersive, larger-scale experience. The movie reps Josh Safdie’s first release in the format.
In Marty Supreme, Timothée Chalamet plays shoe salesman-turned-global ping pong champion, Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, who goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.
The pic also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, Luke Manley, and Koto Kawaguchi. The movie is co-written by Uncut Gems Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein.
Those buying tickets to the 70MM engagements will receive an exclusive limited-edition Marty Supreme poster, as well as a set of Official Marty Supreme Championship Table Tennis Balls – collectibles created especially for the film’s landmark 70mm debut.
Marty Supreme made its premiere at the New York Film Festival.
Bronstein recently received an Emmy for Outstanding Documentary/Non-Fiction Special for Pee Wee as Himself.
Uncut Gems won Best Screenplay at the National Board of Review, Best Editing at the 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards, Best Director for Josh and Benny Safdie, as well as Best Male Lead Actor for Adam Sandler.
