A New York City police officer was wounded in the face during a shootout with a homicide suspect in Brooklyn Monday, law enforcement sources said.
The injured officer was at a scene of a homicide that occurred earlier in the morning in Brownsville when the alleged gunman showed up with a shotgun and opened fire, sources said.

The officer suffered wounds to his face and was rushed to a Brookdale Hospital.
Both the hurt cop and another NYPD officer who were guarding the crime scene both returned fire.

The shooter barricaded himself in the home at 1046 Thomas S Boyland Street and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, sources said.
The suspect has not yet been identified.
Police had been called to the address just before 6 a.m. after a 41-year-old man was shot in the chest, according to police.
